About GSBSG

The Gladstone Suicide Bereavement Support Group is a safe, welcoming space for anyone affected by suicide—whether you’re grieving the loss of a loved one, supporting someone through their struggles, or simply in need of connection and understanding.

We offer a compassionate, judgment-free environment where people can share their stories, listen, and find comfort in the company of others who truly understand.

Our monthly Cuppa Catch Ups provide a relaxed setting to talk, reflect, and heal at your own pace, while our ongoing support extends beyond gatherings through one-on-one conversations and community events.

You don’t have to go through this alone—we’re here to walk alongside you, offering support, hope, and a sense of togetherness as we turn pain into purpose.

Cuppa Catchups

Our Cuppa Catchups are relaxed, casual gatherings where we come together to talk, listen, and support one another. We meet once a month beneath The Blue Tree in Lion’s Park, right next to Kin Kora McDonald’s on Dawson Highway, Gladstone.

Please bring a chair or rug to sit on, and a drink if you’d like. We’ll have light refreshments available, along with a gazebo and table to make the space comfortable.

You’re also welcome to bring a photo of your loved one, or a meaningful saying or memory. These can be placed at the foot of the tree during our time together — a simple way to honour those we’ve lost.

We are grateful to our community partners, including local health services, counselors, and businesses that make our work possible.

Meet Deb

Debbie Schulze is a dedicated mental health advocate based in Gladstone, who has transformed personal tragedy into a mission to support others affected by suicide and grief. After losing her son in 2016, Debbie struggled to find the right support for her and her family. Her search led her to the Ride 4 Lives Australia team and the Gladstone Suicide Bereavement Support group, where she finally found the guidance she needed.

When the support group faced closure in 2021, Debbie stepped in to keep it running, committed to helping others on similar paths of loss and healing. She now leads monthly “Cuppa Catch Ups”, relaxed community gatherings held every second Saturday of the month at the Blue Tree in Lions Park, Kin Kora. These events are designed to provide a safe, informal space for those grieving, supporting others, or simply seeking a place to talk.

Beyond the catch-ups, Debbie offers one-on-one support, even outside normal work hours, and ensures a supportive, respectful environment based on trust, confidentiality, and compassion. She also organizes the annual “Walk Out of the Shadows” event during Suicide Prevention Week and collaborates with Ride 4 Lives to raise awareness and provide resources around suicide prevention and bereavement.

Her goal is to offer a compassionate space where grief can be shared, support can be found, and pain can be turned into purpose.
